ELT Product Analysis — Learner Engagement & Localisation

As part of my internship at Oxford University Press, I reviewed a range of print and digital English Language Teaching (ELT) materials across multiple publishers, examining how content design supports learner engagement, motivation, and cultural relevance.

Drawing on IBM’s Design Thinking framework, I approached the analysis through a human-centred lens, focusing not just on what content was delivered, but on how learners across different cultural and educational contexts would actually experience it.

Areas of Analysis

  • Motivational design and gamification strategies for young learners aged 6–12
  • Localisation and cultural representation within learning materials
  • Interaction patterns, activity structures, and pacing
  • Accessibility, usability, and learner experience across home and classroom contexts
  • Differences between print and digital learning environments

Outcomes

Synthesised findings into supplier-facing guidelines and recommendations covering cultural relevance, visual engagement, progress tracking, and content design – aimed at improving learner connection and overall user experience across global markets.
